Prisoner dies during fight in southeastern Ont.
An inmate at Millhaven penitentiary is dead and the maximum-security facility just west of Kingston, Ont., is in lockdown following a fight.
Assistant warden Vicki Willis said in a statement that Jordan Trudeau, 29, was involved in a violent incident in the prison gymnasium at about 6:30 p.m. ET Sunday.
Trudeau died as a result of his injuries. A post-mortem is scheduled for Tuesday at the Ottawa Hospital.
Two other inmates suffered unspecified injuries and no staff were injured.
Willis said to gain control of the situation, chemical agents were deployed and shots were fired.
All visits are cancelled during the lockdown.
Willis said inmates were taking part in regular recreational activities when the altercation occurred just after 6:35 p.m.
A joint force of RCMP, Ontario Provincial Police and Kingston police is investigating.
