Calls for rat sightings have jumped to 10 to 12 per day for one Ottawa exterminator and he credits the light rail construction for the increase in work.
Rob Caron said Ottawa's rat problem is the "worst he's ever seen" citing a 25 per cent increase in calls.
The rats are looking for new homes as light rail construction pushes them from underground, though the City of Ottawa said statistics show a decrease in rat complaints.
