Historic planes will take to the skies over the National Capital Region alongside some of Canada's newest aircraft during Canada Day celebrations this weekend.

The "parade of aircraft" will feature everything from First World War antiques to CF-18 Hornets, and will include an appearance by the Snowbirds, Canada's aerobatics flight demonstration team.

Almost 40 planes will pass over the region this weekend, and will fly over Parliament Hill on Canada Day.

Here's when to look for them:

  • June 29 between 3:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. — restored First World War planes.
  • June 30 between 1:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. — planes from the First and Second World Wars.
  • July 1 (Canada Day) between 12:15 p.m. and 1:40 p.m. — older aircraft will be joined by Canada's modern fighter planes, including the CF-18 Hornet, painted red and white for the occasion.
