3-year-old drowns at beach in Long Sault, Ont.

A child is dead after drowning Saturday afternoon at Mille Roches Beach, provincial police said on Sunday.

A three-year-old is dead after drowning at Mille Roches Beach in Long Sault, Ont., Ontario Provincial Police say.

Emergency services responded to a call about a child at the beach with no vital signs on Saturday at about 5:45 p.m., OPP said in a news release. 

Off-duty medical professionals tried to resuscitate the child. The Cornwall paramedic service took the child to hospital, where they were declared dead.

Police are not releasing the child's identity and are investigating the drowning.

On its website, the St. Lawrence Parks Commission said the beach is closed until further notice, although OPP said the beach reopened at about 12 a.m.

CBC Ottawa is now aware of 17 local water deaths in 2025, including 11 of them this summer.

Long Sault is approximately 100 kilometres southeast of Ottawa.
