Training a guide dog can take years. If you've ever wanted to know how it happens, watch this short documentary.

A guide dog is more than a furry companion; they're a lifeline — and it takes years of training before their owners are allowed to take the leash.

Meet Tucker and his trainer, and see how this playful little pup transforms into a second pair of eyes.

The short documentary in the video player above was produced by two Carleton University students — Fangliang Xu and Martha Darby — who have since graduated.

Our Ottawa, CBC Television's weekly magazine program, airs this Saturday at noon, Sunday at 2 p.m. and Monday at 1 p.m.
