Ottawa Redblacks' chainsaw gang chopped from Grey Cup — again

For the second year in a row, the flannel-clad lumberjacks who slice wooden "cookies" off a log when the Ottawa Redblacks score a touchdown have been banished from the Grey Cup.

Not enough room on BMO Field sidelines to safely accommodate woodcutters or Stampeders' horse, CFL says

Football fans taking in this year's Grey Cup will hear neither the buzzing of chainsaws nor the thundering of hooves when the Ottawa Redblacks take on the Calgary Stampeders at BMO Field in Toronto on Sunday.

So has Quick Six, the horse that stampedes down the field to celebrate Calgary touchdowns.

"Unfortunately, there just isn't enough room on the sidelines at BMO Field for us to safely accommodate either Quick Six, the Stampeders' Touchdown Horse, or the Algonquin Loggersports Team, that cuts a wood cookie each time the Redblacks score a touchdown," a CFL spokesperson told CBC Sports.

"The teams have been notified of this. We are, however, looking forward to seeing their cheer teams at Grey Cup as well as their mascots, Ralph the Dog from Calgary, and Big Joe from Ottawa."

For the Redblacks. it's the second year in a row their unlucky log-choppers have been banned from the Grey Cup. The four-member team of timber slicers was silenced after Ottawa's 2015 foes, the Edmonton Eskimos, complained to the league.
