Pan Am drops controversial gender tests
What was considered a controversial test, has been banned from the Pan Am games.
Gender testing will no longer be performed on every female athlete.
Instead, it will be done at random.
The decision came after much lobbying from women in sport.
In the past, every female athlete would have been subject to a gender test, which is mandatory under Olympic rules.
The test screens for chromosomal make-up and nothing else.
Canadian women, scientists and many physicians, were opposed to the test because they say it's sexist by nature.
