2nd potato found with metal object inside

P.E.I. RCMP are reporting another metal object has been found in a potato grown in the province.

Both metal objects found in potatoes in Newfoundland and Labrador

P.E.I. RCMP are reporting another metal object has been found in a potato grown in the province.

The object was found in a potato purchased from a store in Carmanville, Newfoundland, north of Gander, by a consumer who lives in Noggin Cove.

It is believed the potato originated from the same Prince Edward Island supplier - Linkletter Farms Ltd. of Summerside, P.E.I. - as in the first case reported on Tuesday. In that case, Bruce Budgell of Labrador City found a sewing needle about five centimetres long in a potato he was peeling for dinner.

Linkletter Farms general manager Gary Linkletter believes the potatoes were deliberately tampered with. He has voluntarily recalled three tractor trailer loads full of potatoes under the brand names Link, Market Town Co-op and Carr's Blue Stripe and Brown Stripe.

The potatoes were sold across Atlantic Canada.

The RCMP major crime unit, forensic identification unit and East Prince detachment are all involved in the investigation.

RCMP are asking anyone who finds any metal objects in a potato to not throw them out. Keep the potato, the metal object and the bag in which it was purchased, and contact RCMP.
