Acadian heritage signs to be showcased in Evangeline region

Dozens of signs recognizing the musical and cultural heritage of an Acadian area of P.E.I. are going up this summer.

The initiative includes road, billboard and lawn signs

Dozens of signs recognizing the musical and cultural heritage of an Acadian area of P.E.I. are going up this summer.

Bilingual road signs saying 'Village musicaux/Musical Villages' are being posted at the entrance of each of the 14 small villages and municipalities in the Evangeline region.

Four billboard size signs featuring musical notes and welcoming people to the region have been placed on roads leading into the area.

In addition, 50 small signs are being posted in the yards of homes of musicians who request them.

The project is being spearheaded by the Evangeline Tourism Association.

Claude Blaquière, the secretary of the association, says they're hoping the signs will draw more people to the Evangeline region to take in events, concerts and attractions.

"In the Evangeline area, there is a lot of villages that have a lot of musicians and dancers and stepdancers. That's the main thing we are promoting, musical talent or musical aspects of the Evangeline region through our marketing," said Blaquière.
