Children four and under can no longer attend Anne and Gilbert The Musical at the Guild Theatre in Charlottetown, according to a new policy.

The small theatre has experienced problems in the past with toddlers becoming noisy and unpredictable and causing distractions for actors and audiences, says the play's producer, Campbell Webster.

"From time to time, there was a young child who got carried away with the excellence of the performance or its youth and caused noise and disturbance and distraction for people," said Webster.

"So then we figured, 'OK well we need to do something about this, so everybody can enjoy the show and the actors can concentrate on their job.'"

Campbell says bringing toddlers to the play was discouraged in the past, but this year the rule will be enforced.

Anne and Gilbert The Musical returns to the stage Thursday evening.

Question of the day: Should children age four and under be prohibited from theatre performances?
