P.E.I.'s Anne and Gilbert: The Musical is proving to be a popular in Ottawa and it hasn't even opened yet.

The show debuts at the National Arts Centre Tuesday and tickets are selling so well they've added an extra show.

2015 marks the 10th anniversary of the musical.

Campbell Webster, producer of Anne and Gilbert: The Musical, said many of the Island actors have been with the show since its early days. He said he's proud some of the P.E.I. cast will be onstage at the National Arts Centre.

"This is Canada's most important theatre. That they have chosen to make it their signature piece ... is fantastic for the show, and more importantly for the many actors who, their very first professional job they ever had in the theatre was with Anne and Gilbert in Prince Edward Island," said Webster.

"Now some of them are onstage here because they like them. They hired our performers in Prince Edward Island and they said, 'We're going to go with those guys.'"

Webster said close to 25,000 are expected to see Anne and Gilbert in Ottawa in the next few weeks.
