Anne of Green Gables musical hits world record
Guinness World Records says performance longest running annual musical
The Anne of Green Gables musical first hit the stage in 1965 and on Friday that remarkable run got a nod from Guinness World Records.
The Confederation Centre of the Arts in Charlottetown has received word from the record-breaking authority that Anne of Green Gables — The Musical has been named the longest running annual musical theatre production in the world.
The designation will be a useful tool to help market the production.
"It's going to be huge," said Carol Horne, chief marketing officer at the Confederation Centre of the Arts. "It's very meaningful for people to hear that word — Guinness World Record."
While there are musicals that have had more shows, Anne of Green Gables is the longest running.
Garnett Gallant has been there for almost all of it. He started in the ticket booth 45 years ago; today he’s the head of the prop department.
"This is wonderful news," he said. "It’s just great to have that recognition and to be able to brag a little bit."
