A stained glass piece that pictures a scene from Anne of Green Gables created by a Charlottetown artist has found a new home — and a special purpose — at a children's clinic in North Carolina.

An American doctor, who collects art to cheer up children at her clinic Kids Count Pediatrics, bought the piece created by Susana Rutherford.

Rutherford hopes that Anne's story will inspire sick children to keep hoping.

"You know, she overcomes adversity with a great deal of pomp and panache, right?" said Rutherford.

"She's got her own style and that's kind of a universal theme that you know, we can be the odd one out, but find a place where we matter and a community that respects us."

Rutherford says the piece was shipped to the U.S. late last week.
