Two initiatives focused on preventing and dealing with violence against women and girls received funding from Ottawa Friday.

Kellie Leitch, federal minister responsible for the status of status of women, made the announcement in Summerside Friday.

The East Prince Women's Information Centre will receive $173,338 in funding for a two-year project to prevent and eliminate cyberviolence against young women and girls. The Prince Edward Island Rape and Sexual Assault Centre will receive $134,685 for another two-year project to prevent and respond to sexual violence against women and girls.

Leitch said the government is taking concrete action by working with community groups to give them the tools they need to protect women and girls from violence.
