Bedeque communities consider amalgamation
Villages look to combine resources
The P.E.I. communities of Bedeque and Central Bedeque are looking at amalgamating, and are looking to convince some of their similarly-named neighbours to join them.
Bedeque held a public meeting last week where residents agreed to move ahead with amalgamation, and Central Bedeque will hold its own meeting next week.
The communities each have about $120,000 in the bank, and hope that by consolidating they can use the combined cash to entice a new enterprise of some sort to the community and stop the outflow of people. Both communities say if they amalgamate they will likely approach North Bedeque and Lower Bedeque next.
Some community members are concerned if they don't join together they might be swallowed up by a bigger community, such as Summerside or Kinkora.
There's no word yet what the combined community might be named.
