Charlottetown's Fred Hyndman was inducted as a member of the Order of Canada Friday.
The Governor General's office described Hyndman as a "pillar of the community in Prince Edward Island" for his work as a volunteer, fundraiser, leader and philanthropist.
He has also played a role nationally sharing his business knowledge as an insurance executive with health care, banking and other institutions.
Hyndman received his medal from the Governor General at Rideau Hall in Ottawa at 11:30 a.m. AT Friday morning.
Over the last 40 years, more than 5,000 people from all sectors of society have been invested into the Order — one of Canada's highest civilian honours.
