Be early: 2 hour arrival before flight suggested by Charlottetown Airport CEO

If you have an early flight booked this summer, the Charlottetown Airport Authority says you should arrive two hours early for it. 

CEO Doug Newson said the airport is receiving new planes with more seats which means there are more travellers to get through check-in and security. 

There will be 500 travellers flying out of Charlottetown over a one-hour period each morning starting at the end of June.

"We've done some other things inside the terminal to try to provide more queuing space and Air Canada's got a couple additional...counters this summer," said Newson. "So we're really doing this to make the travel experience as stress free as possible and to get planes in and out of here in a safe and timely manner."

Cutoff time 

Each airline has a strict 45-minute cutoff for passengers to check in baggage and go through security.

Newson said while the flights are not at capacity now, he is expecting they will be close to full this summer.

Newson said passengers can arrive 90 minutes early for flights after 9 a.m. 

Air Canada Rouge flights now has two flights leaving early each morning: one at 5:45 a.m. for Toronto, the other at 6:35 a.m. for Montreal.

WestJet will add a 6:45 a.m. flight to Toronto on June 30.

Newson said the restaurant in the secure area will be serving coffee and food two hours prior to departure times.
