Copper stolen from Tracadie Bay cottage

RCMP in Queens County, P.E.I. are investigating the theft of copper wire and pipes from a cottage overlooking Tracadie Bay.

The vacant cottage is owned by couple from the U.S. It's on a long, muddy road that's impassable at this time, but apparently the thieves walked the distance to steal the valuable copper.

"The gyprock had been pulled down from the ceiling and the copper wire that runs from light fixture to light fixture was ripped off," said Const. Donna Fogarty.

"It's very unfortunate for the amount of damage that it causes for the poor owners compared to the amount of money the criminal is going to get for the wire."

The thieves removed two boards that covered the windows and then smashed the glass to get in, said Fogarty.

The cost of repairing the damage has not been determined.
