Daniel Sprong signs contract with Pittsburgh Penguins

A Dutch hockey player who has spent the last two seasons playing for the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Charlottetown Islanders has signed a contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

A Dutch hockey player who has spent the last two seasons playing for the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Charlottetown Islanders has signed a contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins. 

Daniel Sprong, 18, was the Penguin's top draft pick in 2015. He was picked 46th overall in the June draft. 

The six-foot, 180-pound Sprong had 39 goals and 49 assists for Charlottetown in 2014-15. Sprong added seven goals and four assists in the playoffs as Charlottetown won a postseason series for the first time since 2004.

Sprong is from the Netherlands and was one of the fastest skaters in the junior ranks.
