Exercise, concussion recovery connection sought by researcher
Heidi O'Brien surveying people aged 40 to 65 who have had concussions
A UPEI researcher is hoping she can find a connection between exercise and how well the brain recovers from concussion.
We’re hoping that the level of physical activity will be a protective factor.- Heidi O'Brien
Heidi O'Brien is looking for adults between 40 and 65 years of age. Participants in her survey will be asked about their level of physical activity after a concussion. O'Brien wants to see if those who exercised more had better cognitive health than those who were more sedentary.
“Some concussions will show a lower cognitive level,” she said.
“We’re hoping that the level of physical activity will be a protective factor for them, so people who remain physically active and continue to exercise, we’re hoping that this increases their health.”
People have until the end of January to participate.
O'Brien said even those who were not officially diagnosed should fill out the survey. Many people in that age range were not always properly diagnosed, she said.
