Gail Shea announces $2.5M for aquaculture industry
Fisheries Minister also announced $300K for P.E.I. marine training centre
The Canadian Aquaculture Industry Alliance will receive $2.5 million over two years to sell more aquaculture products, in Canada and worldwide.
Minister of Fisheries and Oceans Canada and Egmont MP Gail Shea announced the funding Thursday in Stanley Bridge, P.E.I.
The primary target markets are the United States, Canada, Asia and Europe.
Shea also announced Thursday that Holland College will receive $300,000 to purchase equipment and help with renovations for its Marine Training Centre in Summerside.
The college is offering two new courses at the training centre to meet the increasing demand for inshore diver training in Atlantic Canada.
The new courses will qualify divers for work in the aquaculture industry and other sectors that need trained occupational divers, including environmental assessment, archeological projects, the underwater film industry and public safety organizations.
