High-capacity well information request denied
The P.E.I. Environment Department has denied a Freedom of Information request from CBC News for background information on high-capacity wells.
During the spring sitting of the legislature Environment Minister Janice Sherry told CBC News she had received opinions from members of the province's environmental advisory council on whether government should lift the current moratorium on high-capacity wells. The opposition asked for that information to be made public, and Sherry refused.
CBC News requested the information through the department's freedom of information office.
In response to the CBC's request, the P.E.I. government cited a section of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act that allows the province to withhold information if it could reveal advice, proposals, or recommendations developed for a member of cabinet.
