John Li
John Li's consulting company is building connections between P.E.I. and China.
We want to find business opportunities in P.E.I.- John Li
Before he moved to P.E.I., Li worked for one of China's largest food corporations for 20 years. He was in a high-level management position when he quit and immigrated to P.E.I. in 2011.
Li is still in the food business. On his arrival he launched Golden Bridge Marketing and Consulting. He and his three employees help the P.E.I. government and Island food producers make connections with Chinese markets.
The Chinese market is a potentially huge market for P.E.I. producers, Li told CBC News through a translator. They're looking for Canada's very high quality foodstuff.
Li said most of the Chinese immigrants to P.E.I. are like him: middle-aged with a good education and lots of work experience.
We don't want to retire at this age, he said. We want to find business opportunities in P.E.I.
Li said his work has been primarily with the lobster and mussel industries. He does work with individual companies, but he is spending most of his time working with the province to develop a long term strategic plan to improve P.E.I.'s lobster and mussel brand in China.
