Two brothers from Richmond, P.E.I. have decided to honour their late father by buying the family potato farm.

Kyle and Bryan Maynard bought the farm from their grandfather in March, as a way to remember their dad, who died when they were little boys.

That's what we are, we're farm boys.- Bryan Maynard

"Our father was on this farm years ago, and before he passed he raised a couple of farm boys," said Bryan.

Both now in their 30s, Kyle had been working in customer service, while Bryan worked for their grandfather on the farm.

Bryan says even their company's name, Farm Boys, is a way to tie in their family legacy.

"Not only that, there's a lot of guys here that work for us, and they were all raised on farms, that's what we all did. Everybody here has a farming background, and that's what we are, we're farm boys."

The family-first idea runs through everything the brothers do on the potato farm, even hiring staff. Kyle says there are some older farm hands who have been here for decades.

"There's guys in this field right now that I remember driving around on a tractor with when I was 10 years old," said Kyle.

"They'd take me to a field and I'd try to find something to do, just to get out of the house and say I was farming. It's great to see that we can employ these people, and keep everybody with the jobs that they've had."

Now the brothers are hoping for a good season, but they say they're just happy to be in the field, keeping their family legacy going.
