Lands protection commission seeks input
Prince Edward Islanders are being asked to share their thoughts about a proposal to amend the Lands Protection Act, which currently limits the amount of land any person or corporation can own.
In the early 1980s the act set out strict land ownership restrictions, 1,000 acres for individuals and 3,000 acres for corporations.
Horace Carver, who helped draft the original legislation, has been appointed to review the act and he has scheduled a number meetings to get input from Islanders.
"Together we ought to be able to build upon some of the common ground that exists. I am not capable of solving this entire issue. It hasn't been solved for a long, long time," said Carver.
"But I am hoping that this will be a vehicle that I can convey to the executive council, the cabinet in this province, various issues that need to be addressed, provide some options for their consideration."
The first public meeting is scheduled for February 5th in Vernon River at 7 p.m.
