Father’s Day is delivering a sales boost for P.E.I. lobster, according to fishermen.

A new newspaper ad urges people to "make it an extra-special weekend" by eating locally harvested lobsters.

Jim Larkin sells lobster in Charlottetown. He said Mother’s Day usually delivers a spike in lobster sales, but this year local lobster fishermen were tied up in protest at the low prices set for the animal.

"We did our numbers for Friday and Saturday post-ad, this year relative to last year, and our numbers are showing us up on both the seafood market and the restaurant," he said.

"The whole community felt a little guilty ordering and eating lobsters around Mother's Day. We had people clearly say the reason they didn't buy is they were with the fishermen."

The P.E.I. Fishermen's Association told CBC it hopes to see an increase in demand for lobster. It said the dispute between fishermen and processors over price has not been resolved.
