New food bank being planned in Crapaud to serve central P.E.I.

Plans are in the works for a food bank in central Prince Edward Island to help those in need living in the region.
Sisters Jackie and Jenny Myers and their friend, Marianna Burda, hope to have it open by May and expect to offer the service three days a week in Crapaud, P.E.I, after learning there was a need.
"One evening, Marianna's daughter came home and said that a family that she knew was in need, said Jackie Myers.
"So she rounded up some food just in the little, tiny village of Victoria and delivered it to them."
The friends then got talking and brainstormed the idea of opening a small food pantry in Crapaud, which is centrally located between the cities Charlottetown and Summerside.
"A lot of people, if they don't have food, they probably don't have gas or maybe even not a vehicle to get to town to get to the food bank," surmised Myers.
The Crapaud Community Council is giving the group space rent-free in its professional building.
The women created a Facebook group called the Southshore Food Cooperative.
Donations are being made and volunteers have offered to help, Myers said.
