Atlantic Beef Products donated 227 kilograms of beef Thursday to the Upper Room food bank on Thursday as part of a pledge it made during this year's Burger Love campaign.

On April 23 the company said it would donate a quarter pound of beef for every burger sold that day.

That ended up being more than 900 kilograms all together, which will be delivered to the food bank in 227-kilogram installments. Earlier this year, a donation was made to a food bank in Summerside.

Russ Mallard, president of Atlantic Beef Products, said it's nice to be able to offer meat to people who may not always be able to afford it.

"The price of beef has been high, it's coming down now but the bottom line is some things like beef perhaps should probably be a staple in most people's diet," he said.

"This allows beef to get out to people who may not otherwise be able to afford beef on their plate."
