The popular Chase the Ace lottery in Tignish will not continue past Dec. 18, even if the ace isn't drawn by then. Instead, organizers say on that night they will continue to draw tickets until the game is over.

The lottery has been bringing thousands of people to the town and raising thousands of dollars for the legion and fire department in Tignish.

"We're going to be drawing it out on the 18th I guess because we are not able to use the rink anymore after the 18th," said Tignish firefighter Todd Harper.

"We have to have the floor back to the civic centre for the Island Storm I guess, is going to start to play basketball."

Chase the Ace organizers rented the floor from the Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown, to cover Tignish's Centennial Arena's ice surface on draw nights.

The jackpot now stands at more than $597 thousand dollars, with just 10 cards left. There were 3,000 to 4,000 people at last Friday's draw.

Harper said fire department says plans to purchase a new fire truck with some of the proceeds.

The next draw is this coming Friday night, Nov 27.
