P.E.I. theatre troupe gets $225K from CN
Money will go towards 2017 celebration, including trip to Ottawa
P.E.I's Confederation Players are taking their act to the nation's capital for the 150th anniversary of Canadian Confederation.
As part of a two-year, $225,000 sponsorship deal with CN, the youth theatre troupe will appear in Ottawa in 2017 for a special event.
Confederation Centre CEO Jessie Inman said CN is a natural fit for a partnership.
"In the late 19th century, the Canadian railway bound our great country together from sea to shining sea and made us one people," said Inman.
"As we approach the 150th anniversary of Confederation, I cannot envision a more perfect partner to aid us in sharing our nation's stories and commemorating the dreams of our founders."
The Confederation Players Program, made up of college-age men and women from across Eastern Canada, operates six months a year out of Charlottetown's Confederation Centre. Through walking tours, vignettes, Victorian song, and colourful street encounters, the troupe brings to life the landmark events of the 1860s in British North America with personalities such as John A. Macdonald, George-Étienne Cartier, Thomas D'Arcy McGee, Miss Mercy Coles, and others.
CN's sponsorship will also assist the program with professional costuming, travel, and labour associated with the 2017 celebratory programming.
