The power remains out on Prince Edward Island for 15,600 Maritime Electric customers as of about 4:30 p.m. AT Tuesday, and about 250 Summerside Electric customers.

Post-tropical storm Dorian blew across the Maritimes Saturday night, downing trees and power poles, ripping shingles from roofs and causing flooding.

"We had a significant amount of tree removal yesterday, as well as working on our different lines and circuits," said Maritime Electric spokesperson Kim Griffin Tuesday.

"We found about 50 trees on our lines today that we have to get cleared, and 50 that we have to get cleared just to get access."

Maritime Electric has 63 crews working to restore power. On Monday the utility warned some may not have electricity until the end of the week.

Orwell Historic Village and some provincial offices are closed. See more details on Storm Centre.

In Summerside several streets remain closed to traffic including Poplar, Beaver, Hanover, Beaton, Wilmot Lane and more.

And provincial transportation officials closed Gunn's Bridge on Route 240 near Millvale due to storm damage.

Class is in session

Most P.E.I. students were back in school Tuesday but three schools remained closed  because they still have no electricity: Mount Stewart Consolidated, Belfast Consolidated and Ellerslie Elementary.

All schools in the French Language School Board were open, although Collège de lÎes closed for the day.

P.E.I.'s Public Schools Branch said all schools are scheduled to be open Wednesday.
