Parks Canada has officially closed all grassy and cliff areas at Oceanview in Prince Edward Island National Park, citing ongoing safety risks.

Oceanview, located near Cavendish Beach East, is a popular lookout point known for its scenic red sandstone cliffs and views of the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

Despite fencing, rope barriers and warning signs, Parks Canada said people continue to enter restricted areas, leading the agency's field unit superintendent to formally close the area as of July.

"Sandstone cliffs are dangerous and unpredictable, posing a risk to your safety," Parks Canada said in a social media post.

"Visitors should remain on designated paths."

Anyone found trespassing beyond the signage or climbing over fences could face a minimum fine of $150 under the National Parks General Regulations.

Parks Canada says a newly rebuilt lookout platform at Oceanview remains open and offers visitors a safe way to enjoy the view.
