5th annual Porktoberfest underway on Prince Edward Island
Sliders, ribs and schnitzels among entries in the competition
Islanders will have a chance to ham it up and vote for their favourite pork dishes at this year's Porktoberfest.
Beginning Saturday, 20 Prince Edward Island restaurants have items that people can taste, and then vote for their favourite. Some of the pork entries offered include sliders, ribs, pork belly tacos, sausages, schnitzels, sandwiches and burgers.
The dishes are displayed on the event's website along with voting instructions. The website also has information about pork recipes, nutrition and cooking basics.
As well, local markets are offering weekly promotions to encourage Islanders to serve pork at home.
This is the fifth year Porktoberfest has been held on the Island. The event ends Oct. 31.
The 20 participating restaurants are Brothers 2, Holy Cow, John Brown Grille, BOOMburger, Gahan House, Brit's Fish & Chips, Mavor's, The Old Triangle, Piatto Pizzeria and Enoteca, Chambers Restaurant, HopYard, Olde Dublin Pub, Hunter's Ale House, The Alley, The Brickhouse Kitchen and Bar, Phinley's Diner & Dairy Bar, The Factory Cookhouse, East Side Mario's, Quality Inn on the Hill and Turf's Bar & Grill.
