P.E.I.'s Public Schools Branch is not wasting any time in getting started with consultations on a major review of schools in the province announced earlier this week.

Six of 10 families of schools in the province are being reviewed, because many schools in the province are underutilized, and some are overcrowded. Major rezoning is expected and some school closures are possible.

The first public meetings on the review start next week.

  • Morell and Souris Families: Tuesday, Oct. 4, 7:30 p.m. at Morell Consolidated.
  • Colonel Gray Family: Wednesday, Oct. 5, 7:30 p.m. at Spring Park Elementary.
  • Kinkora and Kensington Families: Thursday, Oct. 6, 7:30 p.m. at Queen Elizabeth Elementary.
  • Westisle Family: Tuesday, Oct. 11, 7:30 p.m. at Hernewood Intermediate.
  • Montague Family: Wednesday, Oct. 12, 7:30 p.m. at Vernon River Consolidated.

The province has put together a website with information on the school review.

Two more sets of public meetings will follow this set. There will be another round in November, and one once recommendations have been developed.
