Islanders may want to dig their shovels out of storage, with Environment Canada predicting snow to end the week.

The agency issued a special weather statement for all three P.E.I. counties Wednesday morning, warning of snowfall Thursday night into Friday morning as temperatures drop below the freezing mark.

CBC meteorologist Tina Simpkin said a low-pressure system moving into the province Thursday night could bring anywhere from five to 15 centimetres.

"Fifteen centimetres of snow would constitute a good old-fashioned snowfall warning, and [it] looks like we may be in that range Thursday night into Friday if this low stays on track," Simpkin said.

Environment Canada said travelling could become difficult with snow accumulating overnight Thursday.

Drivers are advised to prepare for winter driving conditions, and should allow themselves extra time to get to their destination.
