P.E.I. saw another record-breaking year for tourism in 2024, setting new records for both the number of people who visited the Island and the economic impact, according to the province.

The latest tourism indicators — released by the province on Wednesday — show more than 1.7 million people visited P.E.I. in 2024, up six per cent from 2023 and five per cent higher than the previous record which was set in 2019.

The province says those visitors spent an estimated $520.7 million while they were here, four percent more than in 2023, and tourism spending on the Island generated $87.9 million in provincial tax revenue, up 4.5 per cent over the previous record set in 2023.

The province says traffic at the Confederation Bridge and the Charlottetown Airport both reached record highs in 2024, as did cruise traffic at Port of Charlottetown.

Tourism on P.E.I. accounts for roughly six per cent of the province's gross domestic product, according to the release.
