Triathlon P.E.I. hoping for more national competitions
Summerside hosting Trilobster Triathlon on Sunday
For the first time, P.E.I. triathlon athletes will have an opportunity to qualify for the world championships next year without leaving the Island.
And for Marian Grant, executive director of Triathlon PEI, the hope is Sunday's second annual Trilobster Triathlon in Summerside — one of five qualifying races in Canada — will help promote and grow the sport across the Island.
Besides the world qualifying running, cycling and swimming events, other races on Sunday are intended for families and kids.
More national competitions
"I see it growing. Summerside, the community and the people, is really involved in sports and they want to see it happen. They've been really helpful — The City of Summerside — for us. And, we could see this growing and even bringing more competitions, like national ones, to Summerside," she said.
More than 200 people were expected to compete in Sunday's triathlon.
