The Liberals were relegated to third-party status for the first-time ever in the May election, but remained strong on P.E.I. where they held three of the province's four seats.

Rae announced last week he was planning a summer tour of Canada to listen to voters, and he touched down in Charlottetown Monday morning. Rae said the party has a lot of work to do.

"Obviously we were not able, somehow, to connect with voters on the alternatives we were presenting," said Rae.

"I think they were good alternatives. Clearly in P.E.I. they connected with voters, but we simply weren't able to connect across the country."

Rae said he's hoping to hear what changes people want within the Liberal party.

His next stop on his Canadian summer tour is Moncton Tuesday.
