Rare blue lobster attracting visitors to Charlottetown shop

A rare blue lobster named Donald is attracting visitors to a store and lobster restaurant in Charlottetown.

The lobster, which weighs approximately one kilogram, has been at the Water-Prince Corner Shop and Lobster Pound for the past few weeks.

However, shop owner Shane Campbell said the rare crustacean will not be placed on the menu.

"We have been asked for a certain time or two to serve a blue lobster," Campbell told CBC News on Wednesday. "We wouldn't bother doing it, because it's more valuable to us to either have (it) mounted or put back in the ocean," he said.

A fisherman landed Donald near Pinette, a community located about 42 kilometres southeast of Charlottetown.

Blue lobsters are a rare find. Only one in about two million lobsters is blue.

Campbell said he has only seen five blue lobsters in the past 25 years.
