Riverdance, the acclaimed celebration of Irish music and dance, is coming to the Charlottetown Festival in October.

Officials at the Confederation Centre of the Arts held a news conference Tuesday to announce 18 farewell-tour performances at the festival.

"It's an incredible production. I've had the pleasure of seeing it quite a few times," said festival artistic director Annie Allen.

"An incredible lighting show, dancing at the highest standard of Irish dancing and with fantastic theatrical qualities. And we know how much our East Coast audience love step dancing and love the music."

Riverdance will be in the Homburg Theatre from Oct. 2 to 17. It is the only Maritime performance on the farewell tour.
