The P.E.I. government has renewed funding for a program that supports the Island's oyster industry.

The Shellfish Enhancement Program will provide $100,000 to the P.E.I. Shellfish Association. The money will subsidize activities such as collecting juvenile oysters and moving them to public fishing areas and the transfer of brood stock to important seed collection areas.

The government has contributed $100,000 to the initiative for the past several years.

In 2014, approximately 3.3 million kilograms of oysters were landed with a value of $9.3 million.
