Summerside's Holman homestead to be saved from wrecking ball
Demolition permit for historic property withdrawn
The owners of the Holman homestead in Summerside have decided not to tear down the historic building.
According to homeowner Kay Rogers, demolition is now off the table because of new developments. She declined to say what those developments are, but said she could provide more information as soon as Thursday.
The city had issued a demolition permit on Dec. 7 but Rogers has since had the permit rescinded.
She told CBC News earlier this month she asked the city for permission to tear the building down because the homestead had been for sale for almost two years with no offers.
Rogers had planned to have the house torn down in the spring if a buyer didn't come forward, saying she and her husbands are seniors looking to downsize.
The Summerside and Area Historical Society had lodged an appeal of the demolition permit in an effort to save the property, which was built in 1854. Its original purpose was as a parsonage for the Catholic Church.
