Summerside's Taylor Sonier has been making a name for herself in Canadian music by performing on TVA's La Voix, the French-language equivalent of the popular U.S. TV show The Voice.

The show has millions of viewers, mainly in Quebec, and the coaches are all well-known performers in the province.

The number of contestants has gone from thousands down to 48, and, on Sunday night, was whittled down to 24.

Sonier was eliminated Sunday.

Sonier says it would have been good to continue on, but she's already getting tons of new opportunities coming her way from the Quebec music industry.

"It did not upset me too much that I didn't make it through just because I had such a great experience," said Sonier, who has never before left the Maritimes.

"It's kind of a bummer because everything's so far away, it's all up in Montreal. But just knowing there are people out there trying to get me to sing on their CDs and stuff, it's crazy."

Sonier has been taking part in singing competitions for years. She won the Maritime Idol contest last summer.

But La Voix was a bit different.

"Usually I'm not too nervous when I go to sing, but just knowing how many people are going to be able to see this and how big the judges were and stuff and it kind of was a bit nerve wracking, but a couple of seconds into the song and I was fine."

The judges on the show said they were surprised by Sonier's maturity level and that her voice had a lot of character and colour.
