P.E.I. tour package, The Vacation The Kids Took Over, selling well
More than 1700 tourism packages created by Tourism Cavendish Beach sold.
A unique tourism package on P.E.I. is having continued success.
Three years ago, Tourism Cavendish Beach created The Vacation the Kids Took Over package. It included 14 accommodations and seven different attractions partnered to offer a type of all-inclusive package for families.
Tourism Cavendish Beach offers three-night and five-night packages to the beach, accommodations and several family attractions.
In its first year it sold 800 packages, which are only available during the shoulder seasons from the end of June to early July and the end of August to Labour Day.
But in 2015, it sold more than 1700 packages.
"Our family market equates to about 38 per cent of our visitors coming into Green Gables, but their spending on a revenue for us is almost 50 per cent of the spending," said Mike Forrest, president of Tourism Cavendish Beach.
"So for Green Gables and for Cavendish region, it's extremely important that we're continuing to support that market. Many of the operators, it's part of their core, it's what they're dependent on for filling the rooms through the course of the season."
Forrest says the committee reviews the package every year and tries to make it even better for the next season.
