Tignish store to reopen after roof collapse
The Home Hardware in Tignish, P.E.I., could reopen as early as Tuesday after engineers try to figure out why part of the roof collapsed.
No one was injured when the roof failed sometime after closing on Friday.
Emerson McMillan, the chair of the co-op board, said the collapse happened above the small appliances and plumbing sections of the store.
He said there were strong winds Friday night, but the co-op doesn't yet know what brought the roof down. Engineers will look at the building early in the week, he said.
"I'm speculating it could have been several factors. We've had some terrible adverse weather conditions the last three months. I don't think it was snow, but there was some snow on it, but no great amount."
McMillan said staff have been working hard to clean up the building and the damaged part of the store has now been sealed off.
He hopes the store will open again Tuesday or Wednesday.
McMillan estimates close to $100,000 damage to the building but doesn't know the value of the goods lost inside.
