Transit service cut in Cornwall

Cornwall town council voted to get out of the transit business Wednesday night.

Cornwall town council voted to get out of the transit business Wednesday night.

Despite the stormy weather, councillors gathered and voted to stop providing financial support for the service. It has to give six month notice, which means the bus service will stop running to Cornwall in June 2014.

In advance of the vote on Wednesday, T3 Transit owner Mike Cassidy said he will look at developing a shuttle service to replace the full bus service.

It was costing Cornwall $75,000 a year to fund the service. Capital costs planned for 2014 would have added to that, bringing the full cost to $155,000.

Coun. Minerva McCourt said after five years of bus service ridership was in decline.
