4 more years: Weston Dressler returning to Saskatchewan Roughriders
North Dakota product has spent his entire seven year CFL career in Green and White
A small man made an enormous impact on Canadian football this afternoon.
Just before 3 p.m. CST, Saskatchewan Roughriders fans across the country took a collective sigh of relief as Weston Dressler re-signed with the team.
Dressler — arguably the most coveted CFL free agent this off-season — agreed to a four-year contract extension to remain in Saskatchewan.
"There's a lot of question marks," Dressler said. "You don't know what can happen. I mean really, you have to expect anything, anything to happen. You hope for certain things, but you never know what can happen. I'm just, I'm happy. Happy to be back here and happy we could work it out."
The North Dakota product has spent his entire CFL career with the Riders since joining the team in 2008.
Last season, Dressler joined the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs before returning to Saskatchewan in August.
"I like being here," he said. "I like the core group of guys that I've played with the last few years. I like our coaching staff right now, the front office, the fans. I just enjoy being here and being part of this organization."
The 29-year-old receiver already ranks third in franchise history with 469 receptions for 6,856 yards.
Despite his 5-7 frame, the speedy receiver has been one of the most productive receivers in Canadian football, recording more than 1,000 yards in five of his seven seasons.
Dressler was named a CFL All-Star in 2012 and 2013.
CFL free agents are able to sign with any team starting on Feb. 10.
