Man charged with 2nd-degree murder in Biggar, Sask. area, shooting
RCMP said altercation happened on farm after 5 people in vehicle drove on property
A man has been charged with second-degree murder in relation to a shooting at a farm near Biggar, Sask., on Tuesday.
Gerald Stanley, 54, from the Biggar area, was charged after a confrontation on private property around 5:30 p.m. CST on Tuesday.
RCMP said a vehicle with five people inside, drove onto the property. Then the land owner, who officers said didn't know the individuals, allegedly confronted them.
Police said a verbal exchange happened as the property owner tried to get the vehicle to leave. That's when a shot was fired, striking a man in the vehicle.
By the time emergency crews arrived, the man had died from a gunshot wound.
Three people inside the vehicle were also arrested, as part of a related theft investigation. They've since been released from custody.
Police said some charges related to property offences are still being considered.
Stanley appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court this morning.
