Regina musician Blake Berglund isn't traditional when it comes to selling CDs.

Over the last month he's seen much of the city on foot, selling his a double-disc of his albums Jasper and Coyote door-to-door.

The country artist's goal was to sell 1,000 CDs throughout the month of May as a fundraising campaign to hire a team for his upcoming album release this fall.

The team includes two publicists out of Nashville, a radio tracker out of Los Angeles and a videographer out of Saskatoon.

"It's sort of my dream team I put together," he said on CBC-Radio's Saskatchewan Weekend on Sunday.

The day before it all wrapped up, Berglund said he was starting to accept the fact he had sold just over 800 records. Then, sales "blew up online."

In the end, the musician sold 1,028 copies of his album.

"I went beyond my goal," said Berglund. "There were periods where it just seemed completely unattainable and then something magically would happen to put me back on track again."

Connecting with the community

Berglund said he was impressed with the amount of community support from people of all walks of life, many of whom ended up inviting him into their homes to talk more.

"It was nothing short of moving," said Berglund. "It gave me an insight into how people treat strangers. And the results of that are people in Regina treat strangers very, very well."

Just going door-to-door, Berglund was able to sell 700 albums. The rest were sold online.

After a month of blistered feet, Berglund said he is on the fence whether to do it again, but said it worked perfectly for what he was trying to achieve.

"I get emotional and I'm very blessed. I appreciate everybody who helped out throughout the journey," he said.

Berglund will perform at the Regina Folk Festival this summer and will be releasing a full concept album in the fall.
