Canada's Environment and Climate Change Minister Catherine McKenna visited the Boundary Dam Carbon Capture project Wednesday.

McKenna said she's looking at different technologies being used to tackle greenhouse gas emissions around the country. She made the stop in Estevan, Sask., with provincial Environment Minister Herb Cox and SaskPower executives.

McKenna also took time to talk to people from the University of Saskatchewan about reducing emissions in the agricultural sector.

"I think it's a story that all Canadians need to hear about, and I'm hoping I can raise it internationally," she said.

The research into this field includes how to reduce emissions from crops and animals.

The recently elected federal government hopes to dramatically slash greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. McKenna said carbon capture is an innovative solution for reducing coal emissions and Ottawa will be looking to see if there are ways to improve it.
